War(Gaza) - Where's Hope?
War (Gaza)- Where's hope?
Red cross
The American Red Cross has pledged $10 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross to help remove any financial obstacles that may impact the ability to provide humanitarian relief. ICRC relief efforts in Gaza include a war surgery team, medical shipments and other critical supplies to hospitals including war-wounded kits, fuel for generators and ambulances and vital surgical equipment.
They pledged $5 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to support the passage of goods from Egypt into Gaza, as well as the urgent needs of evacuees arriving in Egypt, including healthcare services, water, shelter, sanitation, hygiene, and logistics support.
Additionally, the American Red Cross has pledged $1.75 million each to the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Magen David Adom to support ongoing relief work in Gaza and Israel. We commend the heroic efforts of both Magen David Adom in Israel and the Palestine Red Crescent Society which remain on the front lines of this devastating conflict as their facilities, vehicles and supplies have been destroyed or challenged working amid gunfire, rocket attacks and bombings. Sadly, volunteers and employees from both national societies, as well as the ICRC, have lost their lives while aiding civilians during the hostilities. Red Cross and Red Crescent teams from around the world are united in supporting this crisis and aiding those in need.
International Court of Justice
The provisional measures already taken on 26 January and 28 March 2024, the International Court of Justice has, by 13 votes to 2, requested the Government of Israel to
“immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part. Maintain open the Rafah crossing for unhindered provision at scale of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance. Take effective measures to ensure the unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip of any commission of inquiry, fact-finding mission or other investigative body mandated by competent organs of the United Nations to investigate allegations of genocide. Submit a report to the Court on all measures taken to give effect to this order, within one month as from the date of this order.”
Peace Talk
CAIRO/JERUSALEM, July 14 (Reuters)
Israel accused of trying to derail efforts by Arab mediators and the United States to reach a ceasefire deal by stepping up its attacks.
Saturday's(13 July) strike in the Khan Younis area of Gaza, in which at least 90 Palestinians were killed, according to local health authorities, has put the ceasefire talks in doubt.
There had been increasingly hopeful signs in recent days that a deal could be reached to halt fighting and return hostages held in Gaza.
Two Egyptian security sources at ceasefire talks in Doha and Cairo said on Saturday that negotiations had been halted after three days of intense talks.
