Elon Musk's ambitious plans to colonize Mars with SpaceX

 

Timeline

Musk has said that humans could live on Mars within 30 years. He has also said that the first uncrewed Starships will launch to Mars in two years. 

Colony

Musk has said that the colony will be self-sustaining and will include a giant dome for communal living, with smaller domes scattered around it. 

Food

Musk has said that the colony will use Starship to carry plants and animals to Mars, and that residents will build greenhouses to grow food. SpaceX has also partnered with Impossible Foods to test plant-based meat as a protein source for Mars. 

Spacesuits and habitats

SpaceX teams are working on designs for spacesuits and habitats. 

Reproduction

SpaceX teams are studying whether humans can reproduce on Mars. Musk has even donated his sperm to assist in starting a colony. 

However, some scientists say that Musk's plan is unrealistic. They say that there are several problems with terraforming Mars, including a lack of technology and resources, and the fact that Mars lacks a magnetic core.
