Group captain Shukla & Nair to pilot Axiom-4 to ISS

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla & Prasanth B. Nair of the Indian Air Force (IAF) will pilot the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2025

 

Mission details

Shukla will be the primary astronaut on the Axiom-4 mission, along with Prasanth Nair as backup pilot, a joint collaboration between India and the United States. The mission is scheduled to launch in October 2024 from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The mission will last for 14 days. 

 

Significance

This mission will be India's first human presence on the ISS and its second government-sponsored human spaceflight since 1984. It will also strengthen the collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and NASA. 

 

Training

Shukla began his training in Houston. Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair will serve as the backup pilot for the mission.
