UN agencies warns famine in Gaza

UN agencies warn key food and nutrition indicators exceed famine thresholds in Gaza.

“Gaza is now on the brink of a full-scale famine. People are starving not because food is unavailable, but because access is blocked, local agrifood systems have collapsed, and families can no longer sustain even the most basic livelihoods,”

Aid for starving population…

Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and the UAE jointly sent 57 tonnes of aid, including food and infant formula, to Gaza past week.

Countries including Jordan, Egypt, Germany, UAE, France, and Spain carried out joint airdrops into Gaza 1 August 2025. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported 126 aid packages were dropped. This marked the first time Germany, Spain, and France participated.

Italy’s air force will work with Jordan’s military to air drop special containers containing essential goods, he said. The first drops could come on Aug. 9, he said.

Aid through land

The Hamas-run Gaza government media office said  that nearly 1,600 aid trucks had arrived since Israel eased restrictions late in July. However, witnesses and Hamas sources said many of those trucks have been looted by desperate displaced people and armed gangs.

Medical support

Egypt's state  News TV said on Sunday that two fuel trucks carrying 107 tons of diesel were set to enter Gaza.

Gaza's health ministry has said fuel shortages have severely impaired hospital services, forcing doctors to focus on treating only critically ill or injured patients.

Project Pure Hope  identified 30 critically injured children in Gaza who it hopes to help bring to the UK.

Gazan boy first to be treated in UK for war injuries, reached UK.

What's needed?

Despite a partial reopening of crossings, humanitarian aid entering Gaza is barely a trickle of what a population of over two million people needs every month.  Just to cover basic humanitarian food and nutrition assistance needs in Gaza, more than 62,000 tons of life-saving aid is required every month. Restarting commercial food imports are also critical to provide dietary diversity with fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and proteins such as meat and fish.

Additionally, the lack of fuel, water and other vital aid continues to undermine efforts to prevent famine and deaths among children.
