Fire fighter miraculously waking up after 10 years in Coma 

The firefighter  Donald Herbert, who was severely injured in a 1995 building collapse and fell into a coma,n suddenly spoke after a decade of being in a minimally conscious state, a medical event considered a miracle, he died in February 2006 from pneumonia, less than a year after his miraculous awakening. 

The Incident 1995:

Donald Herbert, a Buffalo firefighter, suffered brain damage from oxygen deprivation after a burning building's roof collapsed on him. 

He lost his sight, became mute, and had little awareness of his surroundings, slipping into a minimally conscious state for nearly a decade. 


The Awakening April 2005:

Doctors administering drugs for Parkinson's, ADHD, and depression saw Herbert suddenly speak for 14 hours, a recovery noted as extremely rare. 

His family was shocked by his ability to talk after such a long period of unconsciousness. 


Post-Awakening February 2006:

Herbert died in February 2006 at the age of 44, less than a year after his recovery. 

His death was due to pneumonia.
