Morse code STEM activity

Morse code STEM activity

Kids can build a basic telegraph circuit and engage in offline code-breaking challenges.

These hands-on activities blend electrical engineering, logic, and a fun way to send secret messages.

Hands-On Circuit Building

Build a functioning telegraph system using basic electronics Components

A 3V battery pack,

an LED,

 a power buzzer,

 a push switch.

Wire the components in a simple series circuit. When the switch is held down, it completes the circuit, allowing current to flow so the LED flashes and the buzzer sounds.

The Coding:

Use short presses for "dots" and longer presses (about 3 seconds) for "dashes" to spell out messages.

Send secret messages for other group to decode.
